Choosing the size of your storage unit can be challenging, especially if you have never rented one before. The Storage Place has unit sizes that can accommodate your belongings from a small closet up to a seven-bedroom home. At our Riverside location, you can select from units ranging from 20 sq. ft. to 400 sq. ft and our units in Fountain Valley range from 32 sq. ft. to 600 sq. ft.
Let’s take a look at some of your options:
Ideas: clothes from a walk in closet, end tables, storage boxes, holiday decorations, craft boxes
Ideas: a bedroom set, office equipment, storage boxes, file cabinet, sports equipment
Ideas: furniture from a living room or from two to three bedrooms, office furniture, storage boxes, appliances, kayak and other recreational equipment, large screen TV
Ideas: furniture and appliances for a large home, piano, patio furniture, lawn mower and other garden equipment
A standard two-car garage is typically at least 20 feet x 20 feet, giving you 400 square feet of space. Use this as a guide. Do your belongings take up half of your garage? Then you will need a 10 x 20 storage unit. If they take up the entire garage, rent a 20 x 20.
Allow extra space for an aisle on the larger units, so you can easily reach items in the back later on. And, remember, you can always change to a different size unit as your needs change.
Still not sure how to select the size of your self-storage unit? To help you decide, use this tool to create printable graph paper templates of any of our unit sizes. Follow Steps One, Two, Three to create files in .pdf format. Print them out, then, draw your furniture and boxes inside the lines, to estimate which unit size will hold all of your belongings.
